Donations, Sponsorships and Bequests

There are currently about 150 households in membership of FoWP. Their £10 annual subscriptions cover essential costs including insurance and running the website. All other activities are funded via grants, donations and volunteer labour. Since Sheffield City Council is no longer able to maintain so many parks, woodlands and other green spaces to an appropriate standard, the future maintenance of our park is heavily reliant on Friends Groups such as ours; and on the generosity of those who visit it and value its beauty and serenity. If you wish to support the work of the Friends Group and/or the restoration of the park’s heritage you can do so in a variety of ways details of which may be found below:

Please note that if you wish to make a donation relating to the commemorative garden that should go to the Su3a Gardening at Whirlow Brook Park group which maintains the commemorative garden and keeps a Book of Remembrance. Contact details for the Su3a group may be found at https://su3a.org.uk/homepages/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Su3a-Commemorative-Garden..pdf.

Sponsorship Scheme

We are in the process of setting up a Sponsorship Scheme whereby a donor may sponsor a tree, bush or other park feature and contribute an associated tribute to a loved one in our on-line Book of Remembrance. A tree or bush might be in one of the areas of the Park where we are hoping to plant in the near future or it might be a replacement for an ailing tree or bush. At present we are hoping to plant in the woodland area behind the house and in the land surrounded by the Loop Trail between the Park entrance and the lower car park. We have recently replaced a dying yew tree between the Commemorative Garden and the main driveway with a swamp cypress. Examples of other park features might be a picnic bench in the orchard or a memorial gate. We cannot provide a plaque but the online tribute would last for posterity and identify the site of the sponsored feature. If you are interested in this possibility then please send a message, including a telephone number, and we will get back to you to discuss the options. If you then decide to proceed you will be able to confirm using our donation form.

Making a general donation or bequest

Your donation or bequest will go towards the purchase of bulbs and plants, or help with the provision of tools and equipment for the volunteers. Some people do not wish their donation to receive any publicity and FoWP will always honour that wish. Donations and bequests may be associated with a tribute in our on-line Book of Remembrance.

Supporting a specific project

We have several projects in the pipeline at any one time. Current projects include the community orchard and the tree survey. If you wish, your donation will be included in a list of those donating towards a specific project.

Corporate Sponsorship

We welcome approaches from organisations who wish to support the park. Sponsorship might relate to a specific event or a trail leaflet; alternatively it could enable a large project to be undertaken e.g. as part of matched funding required in a bid to e.g the Heritage Lottery Fund. Such support would be acknowledged in any relevant publicity. Please contact our Chair, Shelagh Woolliscroft (shelagh@woolliscroft.com), if you wish to discuss this.
